(WFSB) – Job hunting is stressful and difficult. Add in a growing number of scammers, it becomes even more complicated.
A lot has changed about how we search and apply for jobs, opening the door for new scams.
“Any time that there is a confusing process or changes in how we do things, fundamental shifts, scammers are going to insert themselves into those processes,” said Eva Velasquez, Identity Theft Resource Center President/CEO.
The identity theft resource center is a non-profit that tracks scams and helps victims.
Their newly released annual report found that in 2023, reports of scams overall to the center dropped 18%.
However, reports of job scams increased 118%.
